    Polymers of monoallylamine are produced by polymerizing monoallylamine in an aqueous reaction medium in the presence of a multivalent metal ion-hydrogen peroxide polymerization initiator. Metal ion sources such as FeCl3, FeCl2, MnCI2 and CuCl2 have been successfully used. The monoallylamine is normally introduced into the polymerization system in the form of a water soluble salt of monoallylamine. The hydrogen peroxide is preferably introduced either continuously or periodically during the reaction.

    This invention provides a poly(amic acid) solution which does not contain aprotic polar solvents such as DMF, NMP, DMAc, DMSO, as well as a polyimide film obtained therefrom having appropriate flexibility and a small coefficient of linear thermal expansion and a coated material in which the polyimide film is formed on a substrate. More particularly, it provides a poly(amic acid) solution which has an aromatic poly(amic acid) and a tertiary amine as the solute and a water soluble alcohol compound and/or a water soluble ether compound as the solvent and contains substantially no aprotic polar solvent, as well as a polyimide film obtained from the poly(amic acid) solution and a coated material obtained by forming the film on a substrate.

    A novel additive for papermaking is disclosed. The additive comprises an aqueous solution of a copolymer obtained by reacting (a) an acrylamide, (b) a vinyl monomer which is copolymerizable with component (a) and has a cationic group, (c) at least one of vinyl monomers which are copolymerizable with component (a) and (b) and have 2, 3 or 4 carboxyl groups in a molecule thereof and/or a salt thereof, optionally (e) a nonionic monomer which is copolymerizable with components (a), (b) and (c) if desired, and (d) a cross-linking compound, in the presence of (f) at least one of ethylene glycol, diethylene glycol, diethanolamine and glycerin. This novel additive for papermaking is able to achieve excellent freeness and yield in the process of papermaking and provides paper with increased strength.
