A simple and rapid microwave-assisted protocol for the selective alkalinehydrolysis of phosphonate diesters has been developed. Under optimized conditions, our operationally facile and atom-economical process allowed efficient access to a wide variety of diversely substituted phosphonic acid monoesters, which are otherwise difficult to obtain by conventional approaches.
