A method of detecting an atherosclerotic plaque vulnerable to rupture in a subject comprises providing to the subject a labelled necrostatin or a derivative thereof, and visualizing the label, wherein a localization of the label in a plaque indicates the plaque is vulnerable to rupture. A method of detecting and treating an atherosclerotic plaque vulnerable to rupture comprises providing to the subject a labelled necrostatin or a derivative thereof, visualizing the label, wherein a localization of the label in a plaque indicates the plaque is vulnerable to rupture; and providing a necroptosis inhibitor or derivative thereof to the subject when the visualizing indicates that the plaque is vulnerable to rupture. The necroptosis inhibitor may comprise a necrostatin, such as Nec-1. The label may be a radiolabel such as

The synthesis and structure of two novel polycyclic aromatic systems is presented. These systems can act as rigidspacer units for the construction of receptors and synthetic reagents possessing different degrees of helicity and containing convergentfunctionalgroups.
A molecular tweezer bearing two pentafluorophenyl groups 2b and its o-methylated aryl homologue 2c were newly synthesized by the slight modification of the known procedure. The low yield in the introduction of pentafluorophenyl group to the precursor dibromide 6 was improved by application of the modified Suzuki-Miyaura coupling reaction using C6F5B(OH)(2) with Pd-2(dba)(3)/P(t-Bu)(3)/CsF/Ag2O catalytic system, which was recently developed by us.
