  Novel substituted N-alkyl-N-alkoxyamidophosphonates or -thiophosphonates and N-alkyl-N-alkoxyamidophosphates or -thiophosphates of formula ##STR1## wherein R is C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkoxy, R.sub.1 and R.sub.3 are each independently of the other C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, R.sub.2 is hydrogen, C.sub.4 -C.sub.4 alkyl, or when taken together with R.sub.1, forms the radical --(CH.sub.2).sub.4 --; and X and Y are each independently of the other oxygen or sulfur, with the proviso that at least one of X or Y is sulfur if R.sub.2 is hydrogen. The preparation of these compounds is described, as well as the use thereof in pest control, especially for controlling insects and representatives of the order Acarina.
