  (EN) A two-step process for preparing 2,2,4-trimethyl-1,3-pentanediol isobutyrate. The process comprises subjecting isobutyraldehyde to a first reaction in the presence of an alkali metal hydroxide to produce a first reaction mixture containing 2,6-diisopropyl-5,5-dimethyl-1,3-dioxan-4-ol, and then subjecting the reaction mixture to a second reaction in the presence of an alkaline earth metal hydroxide to produce a second reaction mixture containing 2,2,4-trimethyl-1,3-pentanediol isobutyrate. The 2,2,4-trimethyl-1,3-pentanediol isobutyrate is recovered from the second reaction mixture and purified. By means of the invention, the desired product can be obtained at high yields and with a minimum of side products.(FR) L'invention concerne un procédé en deux étapes de préparation d'isobutyrate de 2,2,4-triméthyl-1,3-pentanediol. Ledit procédé consiste à soumettre de l'isobutyraldéhyde à une première réaction en présence d'un hydroxyde alcalin de sorte qu'un premier mélange réactionnel contenant du 2,6-diisopropyl-5,5-diméthyl-1,3-dioxan-4-ol soit produit, et à soumettre ledit mélange réactionnel à une seconde réaction en présence d'un hydroxyde alcalin de sorte qu'un second mélange réactionnel contenant de l'isobutyrate de 2,2,4-triméthyl-1,3-pentanediol soit produit. L'isobutyrate de 2,2,4-triméthyl-1,3-pentanediol est récupéré dans le second mélange réactionnel et purifié. Le procédé de l'invention permet la production du produit voulu en grandes quantités, la proportion de produits secondaires étant minimum.
