    Pd-CuI catalysis has been used to effect carbo-substitution with iodoarenes on the terminal alkynyl carbon in (2S,5R)-2,5-dihydro-3,6-dimethoxy-2-isopropyl-5-propargylpyrazine. Bridged structures were formed from diiodoarenes. Homocoupling with bridge formation between two alkynyl units was effected by the same catalyst system with air as the oxidant. Mild hydrolysis gave the corresponding unsaturated amino acids and esters. The dicoupled amino acids have two triple bonds in conjugation in the bridge between the alpha,alpha'-carbons in the two glycine units.
