A range of unsubstituted (1,2) and 6-substituted (3–5) ortho-phenoxy-imine ligands have been prepared and converted to their silyl ether derivatives (6–10). Reaction of silyl ethers with TiCl4(thf)2 in the case of the unsubstituted species yields bis-ligated complexes while the substituted species react cleanly to yield complexes of the form [Ti(O^NR)Cl3(thf)]. In most cases the complexes have been characterised by X-ray crystallography. Testing of the complexes for ethylene oligomerisation and polymerisation has been undertaken employing alkylaluminium co-catalysts (AlEt3, MAO). In all cases the predominant product formed is polyethylene however careful analysis of the liquid phase reveals a complex process by which 1-butene is most likely formed via Cossee mechanism while 1-hexene results from a metallacyclic process.

nol}, two heterobimetallic one-dimensional (1D) chaincomplexes, [Mn(L1)2Fe(Tp*)(CN)3]n (1) and [Mn(L2)2Fe(Tp*)(CN)3]n (2), were synthesized. Single crystal X-ray diffraction reveal the formation of neutral cyano-bridged zigzag single chains in 1 and 2. Magnetic studies demonstrate that both complexes show ferromagnetic interactions between central FeIII and MnIII atoms.

A series of unbridged bis(phenoxyiminato) cobalt(III)complexes were synthesized and studied as catalysts for the coupling of CO2 and epoxide. Dimethylamino pyridine (DMAP) and tetrabutyl ammonium bromide (Bu4NBr). were used as co-catalysts in the reaction. Both Co(III)/DMAP and Co(III)/Bu4NBr systems showed high catalytic activity and selectivity in the Coupling of n-hexyl oxide and CO2, resulting in n-hexyl carbonate. Several mono- and di-substituted terminal epoxides were also tested. The reaction mechanism of the Co(III)/DMAP system was investigated in detail using ESI-MS revealing that in addition to the main product, cyclic carbonate, traces of oligomers are formed.
