  A highly stereoselective synthesis of the des-A B-aromatic steroid (3) was achieved by an intramolecular cycloaddition of the -quinodimethane generated from the thermolysis of 3-(1,2-dihydro-4-methoxybenzocyclobutenyl)-1,1-ethylenedioxy-1-isopropenyl-propane (2). Then, compound (3) was converted into (±)-estrone (12) and (±)-adrenosterone (21).
