  Twenty-one n-alkoxy substituted phenylenevinylene oligomers were synthesized, varying in size, number and position of the OR groups. IR,MS and solubility data are presented. NMR measurements provided the molecular structure as well as information about conformations and molecular dynamics. UV and of cyclic voltammetric data give correlations of chemical structure (number and position of OR substituents) with separate HOMO and LUMO energies. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science Ltd.

  Intramolecular transfer of (Bu3PPd)-Bu-t(0) on a carbon carbon double bond (C=C) was investigated by using Suzuki-Miyaura coupling reaction of dibromostilbenes with aryl boronic acid or boronic acid esters in the presence of various additives containing C=C as a model. Substituent groups at the ortho position of C=C of stilbenes are critical for selective intramolecular catalyst transfer and may serve to suppress formation of the bimolecular C=C-Pd-C=C complex that leads to intermolecular transfer of (Bu3PPd)-Bu-t(0).

  (EN) The invention is concerned with novel water-dispersible or water-soluble copolymers which contain at least one UVA light-absorbing monomer, one UVB light-absorbing monomer, one hydrophilic monomer, and optionally one hydrophobic monomer component. The UVA light-absorbing monomer absorbs at $g(l)max ultraviolet light in the 320 - 400 nm range. The UVB light-absorbing monomer absorbs at $g(l)max ultraviolet light in the 290 - 320 nm range.(FR) L'invention concerne de nouveaux copolymères se dispersant ou se dissolvant dans l'eau et qui contiennent au moins un nomomère absorbant la lumière UVA, un monomère absorbant la lumière UVB, un nomomère hydrophile et, le cas échéant, un monomère hydrophobe. Le monomère absorbant la lumière UVA a un maximum d'absorption dans l'ultraviolet à $g(l)max dans la gamme de 320 - 400 nm.
