    The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of 3,4-disubstituted pyridines from commercially available starting materials. In particular, the invention relates to the process for the preparation for a compound of formula (I) wherein a compound of formula (II) undergoes an elimination reaction to remove the groups Z and Y, followed by the addition of a group H-NR1R2. The 3,4-disubstituted pyridines can be used commercially in acylative kinetic resolutions and asymmetric desymmetrisations.
