A simple, efficient and green protocol for chemoselective reduction of carbon–carbon double bond in conjugated alkenes with Hantzsch esters is described. Without any additional catalysts, a series of conjugated alkenes with strong electron-withdrawing groups were reduced in water with excellent yield.
