  Several analogs of secoisoquinolinc alkaloids bearing a dimethylaminoethyl side chain and a benzilic, or reduced benzilic group were synthesized. Two independent methods based on the intermediacy of 1,3-dithians and O-benzoylated cyanohydrins as acyl anion equivalents were used.
