The acylation of electron-rich aromaticcompounds was achieved in good yields under very mild conditions using an electrogenerated acid catalyst. M(ClO4)n dissolved in an organic anhydride (optionally mixed with a polar aprotic solvent) is useful for the electrochemical transformation in a divided cell.

ABSTRACT Mesoporous Si-MCM-41 supported Ga2O3 is a highly active catalyst for the acylation of aromaticcompounds with different acyl chlorides. Moreover, this catalyst is not deactivated by water and hence does not require moisture-free reaction conditions.
