B(C6F5)3-catalyzed hydrodesulfurization of carbon–sulfur bonds was achieved using triethylsilane as the reducing agent. The corresponding products were obtained in good yields under mild reaction conditions. This protocol could be applied to the reduction of sulfides, including benzyl and alkyl sulfides and dithianes, with high chemoselectivities.

The hydrolysis of 1,3-dithianes to their parent carbonyl compounds via their corresponding monosulfoxides was systemati- cally investigated. The oxidation of the 1,3-dithianes was carried out in high yields using tert-butyl hydroperoxide. Acid-catalyzedhydrolysis of the monosulfoxides to the carbonyl compounds was then performed in excellent yields. The cleavage reactions were monitored by gas chromatography
A mild process using a combination of TMSCl and NaI in acetonitrile is used to regenerate carbonyl compounds from a variety of dithiane and dithiolane derivatives. This easy to handle and inexpensive protocol is also efficient to deprotect oxygenated and mixed acetals as 1,3-dioxanes, 1,3-dioxolanes and 1,3-oxathianes quantitatively. As a possible extension of this method, it was also showed that
Dimeric Potassium Amide-Catalyzed α-Alkylation of Benzyl Sulfides and 1,3-Dithianes
The first catalytic α-alkylation reaction of benzyl sulfides and 1,3-dithianes with styrenes and conjugated dienes was developed under mild conditions by using a readily available Brønsted base potassium bis(trimethylsilyl)amide (KHMDS) as catalyst. The reaction displayed good functional group tolerance, high efficiency, and excellent chemoselectivity. A series of desired alkylation products were obtained
The desulfurization of thioacetals and thioethers by a pyridine-derived electron donor is described. This methodology provides efficient access to the reduced products in high yields and does not require the use of transition-metals, elemental alkali-metals, or hydrogen atom donors.
