Abstract Tetrabutylammonium peroxydisulfate has been proved out to be an efficient and highly chemoselective reagent for the conversion of oximes to the corresponding carbonyl compounds under mild conditions.

A simple convenient procedure of oxidative deoximation has been developed using pyridiniumfluorochromate (PFC), in combination with 30% hydrogen peroxide. The method has been found to be effective for a wide range of aliphatic and aromatic oximes, and may be used for selective cleavage of aldoximes in the presence of ketoximes.

The photochemicalreaction of mesityl oxide oxime was investigated. In protic solvents, the reaction via oxaziridine proceeded, while in aprotic solvents, syn-anti isomerization was the main reaction pattern. A cyclobutanol formation, which is a new type of reaction in the oxime system, was observed. The photochemicalreactions on some other ketoximes and their derivatives were also investigated.
