  Cyclic sulphites react with chlorine to give chloroalkyl chlorosulphates [e.g., Cl·CH2·CH2·O·SO2Cl] in almost quantitative yield. the corresponding bromination of ethylene sulphite leads to a mixture of products including 2-bromoethyl bromoacetate and 2-bromoethanol.
