Abstract In this paper, the synthesis and intermolecularinteractions between N-benzylidenetyramine molecules were investigated. The crystal structure of N-(4-nitrobenzylidene)tyramine shows a molecular organization in zigzag chains with intermolecular O-H⋯N hydrogen bonds between the azomethine and phenolic hydroxyl groups. Those chains are held together by C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds to generate layers
The influence of hydroxylgroups on the β-phenylethylamine aromatic ring was studied during its reaction with non-enolizable aldehydes. Computational calculations established that the degree of hydroxylation generates differences in the activation patterns of the ring (different reaction pathways) and in the nucleophilicity of the nitrogen atoms (different reaction yields).
