Synthesis and Solid State Fluorescence of Malononitrile Trimer Ylidene Derivatives in Aqueous Medium under Ultrasonication

malononitrile trimer were obtained by reactions of substituted benzaldehydes and cinnamaldehydes with malononitrile trimer in aqueous medium under ultrasonic irradiation. The synthesized salts showed solidstatefluorescence with the emission maxima located in the region λ 528–740 nm, depending on the substituent in the aromatic ring.

Potassium salts of cinnamylidene derivatives of malononitrile trimer were obtained by the reactions of malononitrile trimer with cinnamaldehyde derivatives. The optical properties of the synthesized salts were studied to show that they absorb, depending on the substituent, in the range of 358-460 nm. The solid-state fluorescence with an emission maximum at 458-460 nm is practically independent of the nature of the substituent and is due to the tetracyanopropene fragment.

Potassium salts of arylmethylidene derivatives of malononitrile trimer were obtained by the reactions of aromatic aldehydes with malononitrile trimer in an aqueous medium under micellar catalysis. The optical properties of the synthesized salts were studied to show they absorb in the range of 313-436 nm, depending on the substituent. Exchange reactions with various metal salts showed that the synthesized derivatives of malononitrile trimer form difficultly soluble compounds with silver salts.
