    Framework integrity is retained when water molecules replace the nitromethane molecules in the coordination polymer [Ag(hat)ClO4 ]⋅2 CH3 NO2 (see picture for structure), which are arranged in a helical fashion within the chiral micropores of the three-dimensional [Ag(hat)+ ]n network with a (10,3)-a topology. Remarkably, this is also the case after subsequent displacement of the water by nitromethane molecules. hat=1,4,5,8,9,12-hexaazatriphenylene.

    The present invention is relates to the synthesis of predominantly planar heterocyclic organic compound and the manufacture of optical films based on these compounds. Said organic compound has the general structural formula where Het is a predominantly planar heterocyclic molecular system possessing hydrophilic properties; B is a binding group; p is the number in the range from 3 to 8; S is a group providing solubility of the organic compound; m is a number in the range from 0 to 8. Said organic compound is transparent for electromagnetic radiation in the visible spectral range from 400 to 700 nm, and a solution of the compound or a salt thereof is capable of forming a substantially transparent optical layer on a substrate, with the heterocyclic molecular planes oriented predominantly parallel to the substrate surface.

    An organic compound, a three-dimensional organic structure formed by using the organic compound, a separation sieve and an optical layer having the organic structure, and an optical device having the optical layer as an optical amplification layer are provided. The organic structure includes a plurality of organic molecules self-assembled by non-covalent bonding. Each of the unit organic molecules has an aromatic ring, a first pair of substituents being connected to immediately adjacent positions of substitutable positions of the aromatic ring, and a second pair of substituents being connected to immediately adjacent positions of remaining substitutable positions of the aromatic ring. The unit organic molecules are self-assembled by van der Waals interaction, London dispersion interaction or hydrogen bonding between the first and the second pairs of the substituents and by pi-pi interactions between the aromatic rings.
