    Described herein are anti-cancer compounds composed of a macromolecule comprising (1) at least one anti-cancer agent directly or indirectly bonded to the macromolecule and (2) at least one high Z element directly or indirectly bonded to the macromolecule that is capable of producing Auger electrons upon exposure to X-ray energy. When the compounds are exposed to low energy X-ray (e.g., kilo electron volts KeV) Auger electrons are produced by the high Z elements present in the compound. Because lower energy is required when compared to typical radiotherapy, which uses therapeutic X-ray energy in the million electron volt range (MeV), the subject experiences lower collateral damage when compared to radiation therapy. Additionally, the presence of the anti-cancer agent provides a second mechanism for killing cancer cells. Methods for making and using the anti-cancer compounds are also described herein.

    This invention relates to biotechnology, more particularly, to water-soluble polymeric delivery systems for the imaging, evaluation and/or treatment of rheumatoid arthritis and other inflammatory diseases. Using modern MR imaging techniques, the specific accumulation of macromolecules in arthritic joints in adjuvant-induced arthritis in rats is demonstrated. The strong correlation between the uptake and retention of the MR contrast agent labeled polymer with histopathological features of inflammation and local tissue damage demonstrates the practical applications of the macromolecular delivery system of the invention.

    A moisture-sensitive element composed of an insulating substrate (1), a pair of electrodes (2, 3) provided on the substrate, and moisture-sensitive material (8) covering the electrodes. The resistance of the moisture-sensitive material (8) depends on the moisture content of atmosphere, and it is made of corpuscles each of which is composed of a hydrophobic nucleus and a surface layer covering the nucleus which contains ionic or hydrophilic radicals. In this moisture-sensitive element, the relation between the logarithm of its electrical resistance and the relative humidity is nearly linear and it has small hysteresis, so that the relative humidity can be measured exactly. The insulating substrate (1) and the electrodes (2, 3) are preferably made of an insulating layer formed on a silicon semiconductor and conductive polysilicon formed thereon, respectively, so it can be miniaturized.

    A water-soluble quaternary polyvinylpyrridinium derivative which inhibits dye transfer in detergent compositions without adversely affecting stain or soil removal or soil redeposition.
