  (EN) At a temperature between 35 and 100 C, in the presence of an alkaline agent, glyoxylic acid is condensed in water on a phenolic aromatic derivative, in excess or not, other than phenol, having at least a proton on one of the ortho or para summits with respect to the phenol function. Application to the obtention of new acids such as hydroxy-4 tertiobutyl-3 mandelic acid, hydroxy-2 tertiobutyl-5 mandelic acid, chloro-3 hydroxy-4 mandelic acid, fluoro-2 hydroxy-4 mandelic acid, dimethoxy-3, 5 hydroxy-4 mandelic acid, monohydrated, hydroxy-2 methyl-5 mandelic acid, (hydroxy-1 naphtyl-2) glycolic acid, ethyl-4 hydroxy-2 mandelic acid, and hydroxy-4 methyl-3 mandelic acid. (FR) Procede de preparation d"acides hydroxyarylglycoliques racemiques et produits nouveaux en resultant. Suivant ce procede on condense dans l"eau en presence d"un agent alcalin, a une temperature comprise entre 35 et 100 C, l"acide glyoxylique sur un exces ou non de derive aromatique phenolique, autre que le phenol, possedant au moins un proton sur un des sommets ortho ou para par rapport a la fonction phenol. Application a l"obtention d"acides nouveaux tels que l"acide hydroxy-4 tertiobutyl-3 mandelique, l"acide hydroxy-2 tertiobutyl-5 mandelique, l"acide chloro-3 hydroxy-4 mandelique, l"acide fluoro-2 hydroxy-4 mandelique, l"acide dimethoxy-3,5 hydroxy-4 mandelique, monohydrate, l"acide hydroxy-2 methyl-5 mandelique, l"acide (hydroxy-1 naphtyl-2) glycolique, l"acide ethyl-4 hydroxy-2 mandelique, et l"acide hydroxy-4 methyl-3 mandelique.
