A liposome-containing radiographic contrast medium comprising a water-soluble iodine compound contained in a water phase inside and outside lipid membranes is disclosed. The liposomes are produced by mixing lipid membrane components for constituting lipid membranes with carbon dioxide of a supercritical of subcritical state in the presence of at least one compound containing a hydroxyl or polyalkylene oxide group. The obtained radiographic contrast medium does not contain any toxic solvents such as chlorinated solvents, so that high safety can be ensured.
