Ni(cod)2 react with tmeda and acrylic acid methyl ester, methyl vinylether, and acrylonitrile in ether to afford (tmeda)Ni(H2CCHCOOCH3)2 (3, orange-red crystals), (tmeda)Ni(H2CCHCOCH3)2 (4, red crystals), and (tmeda)Ni(H2CCHCN)2 (5, yellow precipitate) in up to 90% yield. Preparation and properties of some bis-organonitrile nickel compounds

The preparation is reported of the class of compounds with elementary formula [R′CH2CH(CN)]2Ni where R′ is CH2CHCH2, CH3CHCHCH2, C6H5CHCHCH2, C6H5CH2, or C6H5. A polymeric structure involving CNi bonds and CNNi coordination is suggested for these complexes. Some properties of the compounds are described and the mechanism of their formation is discussed.
