    In one embodiment, the present invention provides a method of preparing hydroxylamine from a hydroxylammonium salt solution, including providing an electrochemical cell containing an anode, a cathode, a cation selective membrane and an anion selective membrane, wherein the cation selective membrane is positioned between the cathode and the anion selective membrane, and the anion selective membrane is positioned between the cation selective membrane and the anode, thereby defining a feed compartment between the cation selective membrane and the anion selective membrane, a recovery compartment between the cathode and the cation selective membrane, and an acid compartment between the anion selective membrane and the anode; charging a first solution to the acid compartment and a second solution the recovery compartment; charging the hydroxylammonium salt solution to the feed compartment; passing a current through the cell to produce hydroxylamine in the recovery compartment; and recovering hydroxylamine from the recovery compartment.

    Compounds of the formula (I) N (A 1 R 1 )(A 2 R 2 )(A 3 R 3 )  (I) where A 1 , A 2 and A 3 : independently of one another are alkylene, alkenylene, alkynylene, cycloalkylene or cycloalkenylene, it being possible for said radicals independently of one another to have 1, 2 or 3 substituents selected independently of one another from alkoxy, hydroxyl and keto, and it being possible for at least one carbon atom in said radicals to be substituted independently of one another by heteroatoms selected independently of one another from nitrogen, oxygen and sulfur, R 1 , R 2 and R 3 : independently of one another are aryl or a 5- or 6-membered unsaturated heterocycle having 1, 2 or 3 heteroatoms in the ring, selected independently of one another from nitrogen, oxygen and sulfur, it being possible for said radicals independently of one another to have 1, 2 or 3 substituents selected independently of one another from alkyl, alkoxy and hydroxyl, with the proviso that the sum of the substituents specified for A 1 , A 2 and A 3 and the alkoxy and hydroxyl substituents specified for R 1 , R 2 and R 3 is at least 6, and salts thereof.
