  The present invention relates to various end use applications prepared from certain block copolymers. The block copolymers include one or more A or A′ blocks or B blocks plus one or more terminal M blocks. Each A and A′ is a block or segment comprising predominantly a polymerized alkenyl aromatic compound, each B is a block or segment comprising predominantly a polymerized conjugated alkadiene, and each M is a six membered anhydride ring and/or acid group. The anhydride rings are prepared by thermally decomposing adjacent units of (1-methyl-1-alkyl)alkyl acrylic esters such as t-butylmethylacrylate. A wide variety of polymers are disclosed having the stable anhydride rings in the polymer backbone. The invention relates specifically to various end uses prepared from the reaction product of such block copolymers with various reactive resins, reactive monomers and metal derivatives.

  Provided are polymerizable compositions comprising: (a) a sulfinate represented by the general formula [I] wherein R¹ and R⁵ each represents a substituent having 2 to 6 carbon atoms, R², R³ and R⁴ each represents an atom or substituent inert to the monomer (b) referred to below, Mn+ represents a n-valent cation, and n represents an integer of 1 to 4; and (b) a monomer. (a) is an aromatic sulfinate substituted with bulky groups at its positions 2 and 6. Since the bulky substi­tuents dramatically suppress the addition of the sulfinate to the double bond of the monomers, e.g. (meth)acrylates, (meth)acrylamides and derivatives thereof, the compositions can be stored at room temperature for at least 1 year and thus are of great industrial value and, in particular very useful as dental adhesive compositions.

  Several compositions for use as structural adhesives are disclosed. The compositions include a monomer component and a catalyst component. In one aspect, the monomer component includes a first elastomeric material of a block copolymer of styrene and isoprene, a second elastomeric material of a block copolymer of styrene and butadiene, and a cross-linked rubber of a copolymer of acrylonitrile and butadiene. In a second aspect, the monomer component includes a first elastomeric material of a block copolymer of styrene and butadiene, and a cross-linked rubber of a copolymer of acrylonitrile and butadiene. In another aspect, isophthalic acid is utilized as a polymerizable acid monomer in combination with a phosphate ester. In another aspect, the monomer component includes a cohesive failure mode promoter of rosin esters or of talc.
