    A process for producing acesulfame potassium, the process comprising the steps of providing a cyclizing agent composition comprising a cyclizing agent and a solvent and having an initial temperature, cooling the cyclizing agent composition to form a cooled cyclizing agent composition having a cooled temperature less than 35° C., reacting an acetoacetamide salt with the cyclizing agent in the cooled cyclizing agent composition to form a cyclic sulfur trioxide adduct composition comprising cyclic sulfur trioxide adduct; and, forming from the cyclic sulfur trioxide adduct in the cyclic sulfur trioxide adduct composition the finished acesulfame potassium composition comprising non-chlorinated acesulfame potassium and less than 39 wppm 5-chloro-acesulfame potassium. The cooled temperature is at least 2° C. less than the initial temperature.

  • Preparation of protic ionic liquids with minimal water content and 15N NMR study of proton transfer

    Low-molecular-weight Brønsted acids and amine bases were used to reproducibly prepare very dry, high-purity room-temperature protic ionic liquids (PILs). A series of eight amine bases and six Brønsted acids were combined to produce 48 mixtures, of which 18 were liquid at room temperature. The phase transitions and thermal decomposition temperatures were determined for each mixture; whereas viscosity, density and conductivity were determined for the room-temperature liquids. By utilising 15N NMR it was possible to distinguish between neutral and ionised amine bases (ammonia vs. ammonium-type ion), which indicated that the protic ionic liquids were completely ionised when made as a stoichiometric mixture. However, a Walden plot comparison of fluidity and molar conductivity indicated the majority of PILs had much lower conductivity than predicted by viscosity unless the base contained excess proton-donating groups. This disparity is indicative of protic ionic molecules forming neutral aggregates or non-Newtonian fluid hydrogen-bonded networks with a secondary Grotthuss proton-hopping mechanism arising from polyprotic bases.

    The invention provides a proton-conducting electrolyte that has excellent proton-conducting properties, heat resistance, and chemical stability without containing any fluorine. The proton-conducting electrolyte contains polyamide sulfamidic acid in which a polyamide backbone has side chains of sulfamidic acid groups.     Disclosed are a papermaking method comprising the steps of sheet-formation of an aqueous papermaking stock which contains a cellulose fiber or the said fiber and an inorgnaic filler, dewatering and drying, characterized by the addition of a starch ether derivative of a general formula (I): where St-O represents a starch molecule residue, R₁, R₂ and R₃ independently represent an alkyl group having from 1 to 18 carbon atoms or a benzyl group, provided that two or more of these R₁, R₂ and R₃ must not be a benzyl group or an alkyl group having from 5 to 18 carbon atoms at the same time, and any two of these R₁, R₂ and R₃ may be bonded to form a cyclic structure, the said derivative containing the ether bond preferably in a degree of substitution of from 0.01 to 0.1, to the said papermaking stock in an amount of from 0.05 to 5.0 % by weight of the cellulose fiber or the total of the said fiber and the inorganic filler in the said stock, as well as the said starch ether derivative of the formula (I) and a method for preparation of the said derivative.
