A method of making a mono-ether of an isohexide and art assemblage of novel. Song - chain isohexide mono-ethers are deseribed. In particular, the method involves reacting an isohexide stereoisomer with a Bronsted base and an alky! species. The resultant mono-ethers can serve as attractive antecedents or chemical scaffolds tor making a derivative compound, such as various amphiphiles with potential uses as surfactants, dispersants, and lubricants, among others.
Each of the two hydroxyl groups of isosorbide can be alkylated selectively, either by direct alkylation with benzyl chloride or allyl bromide according to the reaction conditions, or by a three-step procedure involving selective monoacetylation, alkylation with four different reagents, and finally deacetylation. Monobutyl and monomethyl derivatives from isosorbide are also described.

본 발명은 엑소-2-O-알킬 이소소르비드-5-O-알킬 술폰산 염 음이온 계면활성제 및 이의 위치선택적 및 효율적 제조방법에 관한 것이다. 본 발명에 따른 제조방법은 용매 또는 촉매 등의 반응 조건을 조절하여 높은 위치선택성과 우수한 수율으로 이소소르비드에 엑소형으로 알킬 사슬을 도입할 수 있으므로, 2-O-알킬이소소르비드-5-O-알킬 술폰산 염을 제조하는데 유용하게 사용될 수 있고, 상기 제조방법으로 제조된 이소소르비드에 술폰산기를 도입한 음이온 계면활성제는 낮은 표면장력 및 높은 기포력을 나타내어 계면활성제로 유용하게 사용될 수 있다.
