A new simple and efficient transformation of various aromatic ketones to the corresponding halo (dihalo) alkenes is described. The reaction proceeds under mild conditions to give the target products in good yields.

efficient visible light photocatalytic strategy to synthesize thermodynamically less stable Z-arylvinyl halides (with up to >99/1 Z/E ratio and 86% yield) was developed. The reaction combined base-mediated halodecarboxylation of E-arylvinyl acids with N-halosuccinimide and visible light Ir-photocatalyzed isomerization of E-arylvinyl halides in a one pot sequential catalytic process.

Organocatalysis opens up for a novel cascadereaction concept where 3-oxidopyridinium betaines first undergo an enantioselective [6+4] cycloaddition with trienamines, followed by a spontaneously series of reactions to provide chiral hexahydraoazulenes, of which some show bioactivity.

An efficient and general method for the isomerization of styrenyl halides under photocatalytic conditions is reported. A series of stereospecific transformations constitute preliminary validation of this strategy in the synthesis of functionalized alkenes, including two diaryl alkenes, a styrenyl boronic ester, and an enyne.
