(η5-C4H4N)(η5-C5H5)Fe, involving photo-substitution of iodide in (η5-C5H5)Fe(CO)2I by the η1-pyrrolyl ligand, followed by decarbonylation of the resulting dicarbonyl η1-pyrrolyl complex, is described. The mechanism of the former reaction is discussed in terms of the photo-induced SRN1-type chain process.

57Fe Mössbauer spectroscopic studies on M(CO)5(azaferrocene) complexes (M = Cr, Mo, W) as well as the crystal structures of W(CO)5(azaferrocene) and W(CO)5(2,5-dimethylazaferrocene) are reported. The complexation of azaferrocene to the M(CO)5 moiety brings about only a small change in the quadrupole splitting. The structures of both tungsten complexes reveal a significant shortening of the W-C bonds
Axial coordination of azaferrocene to a cobalt(II) porphyrin and alkylcobaloximes

A study of axial coordination of azaferrocene to tetra-p-tolylporphinatocobalt(II) and alkylcobaloximes is reported. The ESR and O2 binding data show that N-ligating properties of this organometallic nitrogen base are similar to those of pyridine.

The visible light irradiation of cobalt porphyrin (η1-azaferrocene)(η1-O2) complexes in toluene at 180â200 K results in the photoejection of triplet oxygen, whereas under the same conditions their η1-pyridine counterparts are photostable.

Photoreduction of iron(II)- and manganese(II)-phthalocyanine in the presence of azaferrocene

Irradiation with visible light of iron(II)- and manganese(II) phthalocyanine in the presence of azaferrocene leads to efficient reduction of the macrocycle to iron(I) phthalocyanine-azaferrocene complex and macrocycle-reduced manganese-(I) and -(II) species, respectively.
