Phase relations along the Cd3As2-ZnAs2 and Zn3As2-CdAs2 joins are studied by differential thermal analysis, x-ray diffraction, and microstructural analysis. The results, in conjunction with earlier data on the CdAs2-ZnAs2, Zn3As2-Cd3As2, Cd3As2-CdAs2, and ZnAs2-Zn3As2 binaries, are used to map out the phase diagram of the liquidus surface in the composition region Zn3As2-ZnAs2-CdAs2-Cd3As2 of the ternary system Cd-As-Zn. The ternary eutectic revealed in this region has an approximate composition of 26 at. % Cd + 65 at. % As + 9 at. % Zn and melts at 863 K.

The quasi-binary join Si-ZnAs2 of the system Zn-Si-As was studied by physicochemical methods. The congruently melting compound ZnSiAs2 and eutectics Si + ZnSiAs2 and ZnSiAs2 + ZnAs2 are formed along this join. The composition of the eutectic Si + ZnSiAs2 is 90 mol % ZnAs2 and 10 mol % Si; T (m) = 630 degrees C. The composition of the eutectic ZnSiAs2 + Si is 55 mol % Si and 45 mol % ZnAs2. The component solubilities in ZnSiAs2 do not exceed 1 mol %.

The Si-ZnAs2 pseudobinary join of the Zn-Si-As system has been studied using physicochemical characterization techniques. It contains a congruently melting compound of composition ZnSiAs2 and has two eutectics: Si-ZnSiAs2, at 55 mol % Si + 45 mol % ZnAs2, with the melting point at 1010A degrees C, and ZnSiAs2-ZnAs2, at 93 mol % ZnAs2 + 7 mol % Si, melting at 730A degrees C. The solubilities of the end-members in ZnSiAs2 are within 1 mol %.

The ZnAs2-MnAs system, characterized by X-ray powder diffraction, differential thermal and microstructure studies, is of the eutectic type, with the coordinates of eutectic 73 mol% ZnAs2 and 27 mol% MnAs and T-m = 716 degrees C. The solubility of MnAs in ZnAs2 is lower 1 mol%. Alloys of ZnAs2 with MnAs are ferromagnetic with T-c approximate to 318 K, their magnetization being increased with raising the MnAs content.
