    An olefin polymerization catalyst is obtained by bringing the following components (A), (B) and (C) into contact with one another: (A) a solid catalyst component for olefin polymerization containing a titanium atom, a magnesium atom and a halogen atom; (B) an organoaluminum compound; and (C) a triether represented by formula (I). An olefin polymerization solid catalyst can be provided having a sufficiently high polymerization activity and an ability to produce an olefin polymer with a low content of low-molecular weight components and amorphous components.

    Polymerization or copolymerization of at least one olefin with or without up to about 5 mole % of a diolefin in the presence of a catalyust composed of (a) a solid titanium catalyst component containing magnesium, titanium, halogen and an electron donor, which is a reaction product of (iv) a titanium compound in the liquid state and a magnesium-containing solid carrier, said magnesium-containing solid carrier being formed by contacting (i) a magnesium compound in the liquid state not containing a titanium compound with (ii) a precipitant other than a titanium compound in the presence of or absence of (iii) an electron donor, said reaction product being formed by contacting the titanium compound (iv) in the liquid state and the magnesium-containing solid carrier, pre-treated or not pre-treated with the electron donor (iii), in the presence or absence of the electron donor (iii), the electron donor (iii) being used at least once throughout the period of formation of the magnesium-containing solid carrier and the formation of the reaction product, and (b) an organometallic compound of a metal selected from the group consisting of metals of Groups I to III of the periodic table; the improvement wherein said catalyst is composed of (A) a solid titanium catalyst component of (a) in which the electron donor (iii) is an ester selected from the group consisting of polycarboxylic acid esters and polyhydroxy compound esters. (B) the organometallic compound (b), and (C) an organosilicon compound having an Si-O-C or Si-N-C bond in its molecule.

    A method for producing a polyolefin is disclosed which comprises polymerizing an a-olefin in the presence of a catalyst composition comprising (A) a solid catalyst component prepared by contacting (a) a solid component comprising a magnesium alkoxide and/or a magnesium salt of a fatty acid supported on an inorganic oxide composed of at least one member selected from the group consisting of oxides of elements belonging to Groups II, III and IV of the periodic table and/or a composite inorganic oxide containing at least one member selected from the group consisting of oxides of elements belonging to Groups II, III and IV of the periodic table, the inorganic oxide or composite inorganic oxide having a surface hydroxide concentration of 3 µmol/m2 or less, (b) an electron donating compound and (c) a titanium halide, (B) an organic metal compound, and (C) an electron donating compound. According to the method, a step of removing the catalyst residue from the polypropylene produced can be eliminated and the products have well balanced mechanical strength such as stiffness and impact strength.
