The reaction order with respect to its components, the rate constants, and thermodynamic parameters of the reaction of sodium phenylarsonite with chloroacetic acid in aqueous alkaline medium were elucidated. The effect of substituents at the arsenic atom on the nucleophilic reactivity of arsenite ion in the Meyer reaction is discussed.
