α-2,3-Unsaturated galactosides were synthesized in good to excellent yields by the initial activation of d-galactals with diethyl phosphorochloridite and the subsequent glycosyl addition via Ferrier rearrangement with various O-nucleophiles in the presence of AlCl3.
