    Twenty-one adducts of the form AgX:ER3:L (1: 1: 1) (X = CF3COO 'tfa'), CH3COO ('ac'), E = P, As; R = Ph, cy, o-tolyl; L = 2,2'bipyridyl ('bpy')-based ligand) have been synthesized and characterized by analytical, spectroscopic (IR, far-IR, H-1, F-19 and P-31 NMR) and single crystal X-ray diffraction studies. The resulting complexes are predominantly of the form [(R3E)AgL]X+-, with a trigonal EAgN2 coordination environment, the planarity of which may be perturbed by the approach of anion or solvent. The carboxylate anions have been found to be uni-, or semi-bidentate, or also completely ionic, as in the complexes [Ag(PPh3)(bpy)(H2O)](tfa) and [Ag(PPh3)(dpk (.) H2O(tfa) ('dpk - H2O' = bis(2-pyridyl)ketone (hydrated)). The complexes Agac:PPh3:dpa (1: 1: 1) and Agac:P(o-tol)(3): dpa:MeCN (1: 1: 1: 1) are dinuclear, with bridging unidentate acetate and terminal unidentate dpa ('dpa' = bis(2-pyridyl)amine).     The present invention is directed to transition metal complexes that are used as bleaching catalysts for peroxy compounds. The transition metal complexes contain a pentadentate ligand of the general formula 1 wherein B preferably denotes a heterocyclic or heteroaromatic member of the formula 2 in particular pyridine-2,6-diyl, R 1 —C═N—R 4 and R 2 —C═N—R 4 represent a heterocyclic or heteroaromatic ring or R 3 and/or R 4 represent a heteroaryl, aryl or heteroarylmethyl radical.

    Transition metal complexes are used as a bleaching catalyst for peroxy compounds. Transition metal complexes to be used according to the invention contain a polydentate ligand of the general formula (I), wherein B preferably denotes a heterocyclic or heteroaromatic member of the formula (II), in particular pyridine-2,6-diyl, R1-C=N-R4 and R2-C=N-R4 represent a heterocyclic or heteroaromatic ring or R3 and/or R4 represent a heteroaryl, aryl or heteroarylmethyl radical.

    The invention relates to the use of bleaching catalyst combinations containing a transition metal complex (i) and an imine compound (ii) in order to enhance the action of peroxy compounds. The combination according to the invention contains (i) an Mn, Fe, Co or Cu complex with a ligand of the general Formula (1) and (ii) an iminium salt, oxaziridinium salt, sulfanimine or sulfonimine. A preferred combination contains 1,3,3-tris(2-pyridyl)-3H-imidazole[1,5-a]pyridiyl-4-ium tetrachlorocobaltate and cobalt-bis[di(2-pyridyl)ketone hydrate].
