first hydride-Meisenheimer adduct of 3-nitronaphthalimide was used for the colorimetric borohydride assay. To explain the regioselectivity of the adduct, the reaction enthalpies of the two most plausible Meisenheimer adducts were obtained via computational calculation. Using the adduct formation, the assay of borohydride reagents was successfully conducted.

synthesised as fluorescence probes for the detection of reductive stress in HeLa cells. The 4-substituted derivative 1 was shown to act as a highly sensitive and selective substrate for NTR where it exibited a clear blue to green ratiometric fluorescence response visible to the naked eye. Moreover, biological studies demonstrated 1 could be activated in cellulo where the impact of reductive stress was easily
either photochemically or spontaneously transformed into highlyfluorescent rearrangement products with remarkable photophysical properties including significant fluorescence enhancement, large Stokesshift, high fluorescence quantum yield, superior photostability, and distinct solvatochromic effect. This strategy is suitable for selective labeling of diene-modified proteins and visualizing specific organelles

nitrile-containing naphthalimide aryl ether derivatives via transition metal-free cyanide ion-promoted nucleophilicdisplacement of nitronaphthalimide with alcohols or phenols. The transformation involves a one-pot reaction, which is operationally simple and mild and bereft of transition metal catalysts. This work provides a novel route for the preparation of diaryl ether derivatives.

colorimetric and fluorometric chemosensor, 3-nitro-1,8-naphthalimide derivative (1), was successfully developed for the light-up detection of CN- with high selectivity. The cyanide-induced nucleophilicsubstitution of hydrogen in nitro-controlled naphthalimide (1) to produce the anionic δH adducts, which can be further converted to cyanation-hydroxylation product 3, was first disclosed.
