A subject for the invention is to provide a method of production for stably producing a polycarbonate excellent in transparency, color tone, heat resistance, moldability, and mechanical strength and having excellent optical properties. The invention relates to a method of producing a polycarbonate from a dihydroxy compound ingredient including at least a dihydroxy compound having the structure represented by the following formula (1) in the molecule and from a carbonic acid diester, the method including mixing the dihydroxy compound having the structure represented by the following formula (1) in the molecule with the carbonic acid diester in a molten state at a temperature of from 70°C to 240°C and a pressure of from 0.06 MPa to 0.20 MPa for a period of from 0.5 hours to 30 hours and then causing a transesterification reaction to proceed at a pressure lower than 0.06 MPa to produce a polycarbonate,

An object of the invention is to provide polycarbonate resins containing a specific end group and having excellent heat resistance and transparency, and compositions which contain the polycarbonate resins.
