    The invention relates to a curable composition comprising a crosslinking silyl-containing vinyl polymer. The curable composition of the invention can be utilized, for example, as sealants such as elastic sealants for building and construction, electric or electronic part materials such as solar battery backside sealants, electric insulating materials such as insulating sheath of wire or cable, pressure sensitive adhesives, adhesives, and paints. A curable composition which comprises the following two components: (A) a vinyl polymer (I) having at least one crosslinking functional group and (B) heavy or ground calcium carbonate (II) having a specific surface area of not smaller than 1.5 m 2 /g but not larger than 50 m 2 /g.

    Described is a rubbery copolymer of ethylene, propylene and a nonconjugated polyene, wherein the ethylene/propylene molar ratio is 78/22 to 97/3 and the total content of propylene and nonconjugated polyene is 6 to 30 mole %, and is a vulcanizable rubber composition comprising said copolymer. The rubber composition of the present invention yields vulcanized products excellent in tensile strength, heat resistance, oil resistance, compression set resistance and flex behavior. The vulcanized products can be used as automobile parts and other articles such as socket covers, heat resistant hoses, electric wires, condenser caps, heat resistant belts, vibration-proof rubbers, hoses, weather strips, seal sponges, black side wall of tires, etc.

    A vulcanizable elastomer composition is prepared by blending 100 parts by weight of a copolymer containing (A) 50-85% by mole of ethylene units, (B) 10-45% by mole of an alkyl acrylate unit having the formula (I), wherein R₁ is an alkyl having 1-8 carbon atoms, (C) 2-35% by mole of an alkoxyalkyl acrylate unit having the formula (II), wherein R₂ is hydrogen or methyl, R₃ is an alkylene having 1-4 carbon atoms, and R⁴ is an alkyl or alkoxy­alkyl, each having 1-4 carbon atoms, and (D) up to 5% by mole of a glycidyl ester unit having the formula (III), wherein R⁵ is hydrogen or methyl, and 0.1-10 parts by weight of at least one vulcanizing agent. The vulcanizable composition can give vulcanizates of well-balanced properties having an improved low-temperature resistance and retaining excellent oil resistance.

    A random copolymer of (a) an α-olefin having 3 to 12 carbon atoms, (b) a non-conjugated diene represented by the following formula (1): wherein R¹ represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group having 1 to 8 carbon atoms, R², R³, R⁴ and R⁵ each independently represent a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group having 1 to 8 carbon atoms, and n is a number of from 2 to 10, and (c) optionally ethylene, which random copolymer comprises 0.1 to 15 mol% of monomer units of said non-conjugated diene, 0 to 4 mol% of monomer units of ethylene, and pendent ethylenical unsaturations, and has a crystallization degree of 20% or more determined by an X-ray diffraction method, a melt index of 0.01 to 200 g/10 minutes, and a modulus of elasticity according to JIS K-7203 of 1,000 to 30,000 kg/cm². The random copolymer can be in the crosslinked form through the pendent ethylenical unsaturation and can also be in the form of a blend of the copolymer with a thermoplastic polymer compatible therewith. The crosslinking can be conducted on the blend of the random copolymer with the thermoplastic polymer, and can also be conducted under the conditions that the random copolymer and/or the thermoplastic polymer are/is foamed whereby the crosslinked product is obtained as a foam.

    Free radically curable rubbers are crosslinked with the aid of a free radical initiator and a co-curing agent, which is an acrylate or methacrylate ester of a hydroxybenzene or hydroxynaphthalene compound containing two or more hydroxyl groups, at least two of which are esterified. The rubbers which are used in the present invention are natural rubber and synthetic rubbers derived from a diene monomer. Preferred co-curing agents are acrylate and methacrylate esters of hydroxybenzene compounds in which the ester contains two or three acrylate or methacrylate groups per molecule. The amount of co-curing agent may be about 1 - 50 parts by weight per one hundred parts by weight of rubber (phr). Outstanding abrasion resistance and air oven aging are observed.
