A Lewis acid palladium-catalyzed reaction of amides, aryl aldehydes, and arylboronic acids is described. This new method allows for a practical and generalsynthesis of α-substituted amides from simple, readily available building blocks.
A metal-free photocatalytic Ritter-type C–H amination of diarylmethanes using O2 as an oxidant has been developed using a co-catalytic system of DDQ and TBN and offers a low cost, sustainable way to synthesise secondary amides under mild conditions.

Under mild conditions, the oxidative functionalization of C–Hbondsadjacent to an amide nitrogen atom was achieved. tert-Butylperoxyamido acetal was obtained in high yields and could be further converted into α-substituted amides by treatment with Grignard reagents.
