A D–π-A Schiff-base compound, 2-amino-3([4-(diethylamino)-2-hydroxylphenyl]methylene}amino)-but-2-enedinitrile (H2L), was prepared using diaminomaleonitrile and 4-(N,N-diethylamino)salicylaldehyde. Compared with H2L at 293 K, a low temperature of 100 K makes the parallel aromatics in H2L come closer and fluorescence emission becomes weaker because of π–π interaction-caused quenching. After grinding
species, Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Candida albicans. Their toxicity was tested in mammal fibroblasts. Among the synthesised compounds, two presented dual antioxidant/antifungal activity without toxic effects in fibroblasts. The new compounds synthesized in this work are potential biochemical tools and/or therapeutic drugs.
Spectroscopic studies of the intramolecular hydrogen bonding in o-hydroxy Schiff bases, derived from diaminomaleonitrile, and their deprotonation reaction products
lacks intramolecularhydrogen bond. Deprotonation of all synthesized compounds was done by treating with tetramethylguanidine (TMG). NMR data revealed that salicylidene Schiff bases in DMSO solution exist as OH forms without intramolecularhydrogenbonds and independent on the substituents in aromatic ring. In the case of 2-hydroxy naphthyl derivative, the OH proton is engaged into weak intramolecular hydrogen

nM. Through the condensation mechanism and with amine as the binding site of formaldehyde, the exposed amino group in the probe structure responds sensitively and efficiently to formaldehyde. The probe can effectively monitor 0.50–25 μM formaldehyde in aqueous solutions, with a detection limit as low as 42 nM. A portable solid sensor – a formaldehyde detection plate was built by directly covering the
