and their agriculturally suitable salts provided that: both R3 and R4 may not simultaneously be CH3, and further provided that R, and A are bonded to adjacent carbon atoms of the thiophene or furan ring; exhibit herbicidal and plant growth regulant activity. They may be formulated for use in conventional manner.
The novel compounds may be made by reacting a novel isocyanate of formula

by methoxy or methoxy and ethoxy.
