  Compounds of the formula wherein Q is O or S; A is R, is R6S[O]n; R6 is C1-C4 alkyl, C3-C4 alkenyl, cyclopentyl or cyclopropylmethyl; R2 is H, Cl, Br or CH3; R3 and R4 are independently H or CH3; n is 0, 1 or 2; and R5 is wherein X is CH3 or OCH3; Y is H, Cl, CH3, C2H5, OCH3, OC2H5 or CH2OCH3; Y, is H, Cl, CH3 or OCH3; Y2 is CH3 or OCH3; Z is CH or N; and their agriculturally suitable salts provided that: both R3 and R4 may not simultaneously be CH3, and further provided that R, and A are bonded to adjacent carbon atoms of the thiophene or furan ring; exhibit herbicidal and plant growth regulant activity. They may be formulated for use in conventional manner. The novel compounds may be made by reacting a novel isocyanate of formula . with an amine of formula R4R5NH; or by replacing the chlorine atoms in novel intermediates of formula by methoxy or methoxy and ethoxy.
