This invention discloses a method of increasing the recoverable sugar contained in sugar cane which comprises contacting the sugar cane plant with an effective amount of a compound of the formula ##STR1## wherein X is selected from the group consisting of alkyl, halogen, trifluoromethyl and alkoxy; n is an integer from 0 to 5; and Z is a straight or branched alkylene group containing from 1 to 5 carbon atoms.
