R1 is H, C! or various organic groups:

R2 is alkyl, substituted alkyl, alkenyl or alkynyl:
R2' is CH3, C2H5 or OCH3;
W is O or S: and
Z and Z' are phenyl, naphthyl, pyridyl or thienyl, any of which may be substituted, or Z may additionally be an optionally substituted benzyl, phenoxy or furyl groupe;
exhibit pre-emergence and post-emergence herbicidal activity. The compounds may be formulated for agricultural use in conventional manner.
The novel triazole derivatives may be made by reacting a compound of formula
with an isocyanate or isothiocyanate of formula
The imidazole derivatives may be made analogously.
