    Provided are a thermoplastic resin composition which is excellent in oil resistance, heat resistance, weatherability, impact resistance, transparency, and moldability, and which can be produced economically, an elastomer composition with low hardness and high tensile strength which is excellent in oil resistance and compression set, and a molded object produced by molding the thermoplastic resin composition or elastomer composition. The composition is produced by compounding a thermoplastic resin or an elastomer with a block copolymer having at least one methacrylic ester polymer block and at least one acrylic ester polymer block. Also provided are a process for producing a methacrylic ester-acrylic ester-methacrylic ester block copolymer which requires hardly any purification, which is excellent in heat resistance and weatherability, and in which the molecular weight and the molecular-weight distribution are controlled, and a methacrylic ester-acrylic ester-methacrylic ester block copolymer produced by the process.

The block copolymer is produced by reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer polymerization in the presence of a thiocarbonylthio group-containing compound.

    The present invention provides a thermoplastic resin composition which comprises [A] 100 weight parts of a thermoplastic resin, [B] 2.0 to 40 weight parts of a bromine-containing organic flame retardant, and [C] 1.0 to 30 weight parts of a (meth)acrylamide-based copolymer and/or a (meth)acrylate ester-based copolymer each comprising 65 to 99 mole percent of an olefin-derived structural unit (I), 0 to 15 mole percent of a (meth)acrylate-derived structural unit (II) and 1 to 35 mole percent of a (meth)acrylamide-derived or (meth)acrylate ester-derived structural unit (III), as arranged linearly, with a weight average molecular weight of 1,000 to 50,000. The thermoplastic resin composition is excellent both in flame retardancy and in permanent antistatic property. It has been deemed impossible in the art to obtain such a resin composition.

    A foamed styrene resin material has a density ρ of 0.02 to 0.008 and a melt tension of the styrene resin of 5 to 40 gf. The relation between an average cell diameter d (µm) and the density ρ is given by the expression:35ρ1/3 ≦ d ≦ 70ρ1/3 and a relation between a thermal conductivity λ (kcal/m·h·°C) and the density ρ given by the expression:λ ≦ 0.0001 × 1ρ + 0.023 Accordingly, the foamed styrene resin material has a low thermal conductivity and excellent insulating property in spite of a low density (high expansion ratio foam) thereof.
