New Schiff bases containing both adamantyl and phenyl fragments in a single molecule were synthesized by condensation of appropriate diamines with aromatic aldehydes. The condensation products were brought into reduction and nucleophilic addition reactions.

Bis(bromobenzyl)derivatives of cyclen and cyclam obtained according to previously described procedures were introduced in a palladium-catalyzed reaction with 1,3bis(aminomethyl)adamantane and 1,3-bis(2-aminoethyl)adamantane to produce macrobicycles in moderate yields. A copper(I) complex-catalyzed N,N’-diarylation of diamines based on 1,3-disubstituted adamantane, using aryl iodides bearing electron-donating and electron-withdrawing substituents, was studied.
