2,2-diaryl-1,3-dithiolanes, readily obtainable from diaryl ketones, were transformed into the corresponding gem-difluoro compounds using a novel reagent combination involving Selectfluor and pyridiniumpolyhydrogenfluoride (PPHF) under mild conditions in moderate to good yields.
accomplishments have been achieved in the chemistry of difluorocarbene, but transition‐ metal‐catalyzedtransfer of difluorocarbene for coupling remains a challenging task. Herein, we describe a Pd‐catalyzedcoupling of difluorocarbene with two aryl carbon centers to give difluoromethylenation products, which cannot be obtained by any previous difluorocarbene‐transformation method.

Using a Lewis acid-quenched CF2Ph− reagent, we show C–C bondformationthrough nucleophilic additionreactions to prepare molecules containing internal –CF2– linkages. We demonstrate C(sp2)–C(sp3) coupling using both SNAr reactions and Pd-catalysis. Finally, C(sp3)–C(sp3) bonds are forged using operationally simple SN2 reactions that tolerate medicinally-relevant motifs.
