The present invention provides novel transition-metal precatalysts that are useful in preparing active coupling catalysts. In certain embodiments, the precatalysts of the invention are air-stable and moisture-stable. The present invention further provides methods of making and using the precatalysts of the invention.
Coupling reactions of tertiary and secondary alkyl halides with indenyllithiums proceeded effectively in the presence of a catalytic amount of silver bromide to provide tertiary- and secondary-alkyl-substituted indene derivatives in good yields.

Ozonolysis of indenes in the presence of primary amines gives in
each case the corresponding 1,2,4-dioxazolidines derived from the
intramolecular cyclization of the products of trapping of the carbonyl
oxide moieties by the amines.

Ethylene based copolymers having high molecular weights, narrow molecular weight distributions, and a very good homogeneous distribution of the comonomer units can be obtained in high yields at temperatures of industrial interest, by carrying out the polymerization reaction in the presence of metallocene catalysts comprising particular bridged bis-indenyl compounds substituted in the 3-position on the indenyl groups.
