    A cured matter obtained by polymerizing and curing a polymerizable composition comprising a compound having at least one episulfide in a molecule is reduced in an odor by adding a perfume to the polymerizable composition comprising the compound having at least one episulfide in a molecule. A cloudiness of the lens is removed by raising a purity of sulfur to 98% or more. A reduction in a chlorine content of the sulfur compound described above to 0.1% by weight or less elevates an oxidation resistance and a light fastness of the high refractive index optical material and improves a color tone thereof. An optical product having a high refractive index and a high-degree transparency is provided by subjecting the composition in advance to deaerating treatment at 0 to 100° C. for one minute to 24 hours under a reduced pressure of 0.001 to 50 torr.

    The present invention relates to a composition for optical materials, comprising (a) a compound having in one molecule at least one structure represented by the following Formula 1: wherein R1 is a C0-10 hydrocarbon group, each of R2, R3 and R4 is a C1-10 hydrocarbon group or hydrogen, Y is O, S, Se or Te, m is 1 to 5, and n is 0 to 5; (b) a compound having in one molecule at least one isocyanate group and/or at least one isothiocyanate group; (c) a compound having in one molecule at least one mercapto group; and (d) an inorganic compound having sulfur atom and/or selenium atom, and also relates to an optical material produced by polymerization curing the composition, a production method thereof, and an optical lens comprising the optical material. The present invention provides a high refractive, high Abbe's number optical material having an improved impact resistance.

    A polymerizable composition containing (A) a compound having two or more mercapto groups; (B) a NCO-terminated polyurethane prepolymer; (C) a polyisocyanate compound; and (D) an episulfide compound. The episulfide compound D has in its molecule at least one structural group represented by the following formula 1: wherein R1 is a divalent hydrocarbon group having from 1 to 10 carbon atoms or a single bond, R2, R3 and R4 are each independently a hydrocarbon group having from 1 to 10 carbon atoms or hydrogen, Y is O or S, m is an integer of from 1 to 5, and n is an integer of from 0 to 5. Optical materials produced by curing the polymerizable composition by polymerization have a high refractive index and a high Abbe's number and are excellent in impact strength.

    A curable composition containing an inorganic compound A having sulfur atom and/or selenium atom, a compound B represented by the following formula 1: wherein m is an integer from 0 to 4, and n is an integer from 0 to 2, and a compound C selected from the group consisting of thiol compounds having one SH group and disulfide compounds which are other than the compound B and have one or more disulfide linkages. The inorganic compound A is contained in an amount from 1 to 50 parts by weight and the compound B is contained in an amount from 50 to 99 parts by weight when a total of the inorganic compound A and the compound B is taken as 100 parts by weight. The compound C is contained in an amount from 1 to 20 parts by weight based on 100 parts by weight in total of the inorganic compound A and the compound B. The curable composition causes little increase in the viscosity even when subjected to prepolymerization and deaeration, thereby facilitating the operation of cast polymerization for producing optical materials, etc.
