Thiocarbonyl-containing compounds undergo reactions with C1-Lewis base enolates to give sulfur heterocycles. Specifically, dimethylaminopyridine (DMAP) catalyses the cyclisation of dithioesters, trithiocarbonates and xanthates to give an array of sulfur heterocycles.
