Photooxygenation of adamantylidene 8, from xanthene and adamantanone by a Peterson olefination, produced the new spiro-xanthene substituted 1,2-dioxetane 9. The thermochemical properties of 9 (λmax=420 nm, øcl-= 0.06%) are discussed along with the results from an X-ray diffraction study.
